She endures reckless child abuse at the hands of her family; the people who should be loving and taking care of her. She wants to be cherished like other children, but instead, she is beaten, neglected, and harassed by her mother and two older siblings. After the arrest of her predator father, the abuse grows worse-she is even held hostage by one sibling.Little Vanessa prays she will be saved one day by a loving family. After years of struggling to take care of herself and her younger sister, she finds guidance through her Bible and a few trusted adults. Still, it isn't enough, and her exploitation tragically continues for many more years. I am Vanessa. I've written this true story because I know there are children still suffering in silence the way I did-and I'm attempting to give them a voice and to provide a picture of possibilities for hope and healing.
